I grew up there with my sister in a Lemko family with farming roots. My ancestors were part of the community resettled from their homeland during Operation Vistula. Years later, my grandparents returned to Hańczowa and bought back the land that had once belonged to our family. That heritage remains an important part of my identity. I speak and write Lemko. Until the age of seven, I was raised mainly by my mother and grandparents, as my father worked abroad. In the years that followed, we managed to make up for lost time. It was from my parents that I learned that, no matter where you start, it is worth aiming high — though each of them taught me that lesson in their own way. My parents worked hard and were determined that I would not have to live the way they did — from dawn to dusk, with everything subordinated to physical labor. That is why, from my earliest years, they placed enormous importance on my education. My mother was especially demanding. She encouraged me — and sometimes simply obliged me — to take part in every possible olympiad and competition. Thanks to that, I won awards in mathematics, physics, chemistry, and history, among others. I also took part in recitation contests, which, to be honest, I couldn't stand. Beyond schoolwork, I did what many boys growing up in the countryside did at the time: I played football, read books, wandered the surrounding hills, and took the cows out to pasture. ### The Lesson That Sparked Defiance One of the most important moments of my childhood was a visit from a psychologist to our thirteen-person class in a rural primary school. He told us not to expect too much from life. He suggested that, regardless of our abilities, gaps in our education and limited access to information meant we would probably achieve little. I don't remember every word he used, but I remember their meaning perfectly. Instead of discouraging me, they stirred defiance in me. I decided that my place of birth would not set the limits of what I could do. The second event that changed my life was receiving my first computer. I was seven years old when my father gave it to me. In Hańczowa, it was a widely discussed topic at the time. The computer cost as much as a piece of farm machinery or livestock, so many people considered the purchase an extravagance and an unnecessary whim. To this day I am grateful to my father for that decision. The computer opened up a world I had not had access to before. ### Mathematics and Football From childhood I had two great passions: mathematics and football. During the holidays I could spend hours solving problems meant for older students. I was interested not only in finding the correct answer, but also in understanding the mechanism that led to it. Over time, I began to apply a similar way of thinking to technology, business, and management. I also became a youth member of the Sejm after winning a competition for the best essay. It was my first experience showing that ideas and words could matter beyond the classroom. I trained in football practically every day. I kicked not only a real ball, but anything that even slightly resembled one. I also competed in athletics and won medals in the hundred-meter sprint. My first club was Ludowy Klub Sportowy Hańczowa. Later, for a symbolic few footballs, I moved to LKS Uście Gorlickie. It was there that I first began to think seriously about a future in sport. Football became my obsession. I won top-scorer titles in local competitions, and my results started to attract the attention of bigger clubs. I was also chosen the best player of the Lesser Poland stage of the "Piłkarska Kadra Czeka" program. When choosing a secondary school, I moved to GKS Glinik Gorlice, which at the time competed at Poland's highest level of under-nineteen junior football. During that footballing adventure I scored goals against, among others, Wisła Kraków — the club with which, many years later, I would become connected in a completely different role. I graduated from the Marcin Kromer 1st General Secondary School in Gorlice. After my final exams, I faced one of my first truly difficult decisions: I could keep fighting for a professional football career, or focus on my studies. I chose university. That did not mean the end of sport, however. I represented AZS AGH in Kraków, winning championship titles in futsal and football. ### Studies, Work, and First Technology Projects In parallel, I studied applied social sciences at the AGH University of Science and Technology and computer science at the School of Management and Banking in Kraków. I combined the two degrees with full-time work as a programmer. Good results allowed me to follow an individual course of study. I received academic, sports, and social scholarships, the rector's scholarship, and the prestigious scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. It was an extremely intense period. Just as in childhood I could spend a whole day on a LEGO construction, during my studies I invested almost all of my time in learning, work, and growth. I often slept three or four hours a night. Today I know it was neither a healthy nor a recommendable way to live, but back then I was completely absorbed by the need to acquire new skills. Together with friends, I delivered projects for international clients. I gained experience not only in programming, but also in designing user experiences, that is, UX. One of the first systems I designed as a freelancer was an application for managing school canteens, used by hundreds of children and running for many years. I also worked as a programmer responsible for the elective-course selection system at AGH. My first professional experiences, however, began much earlier. During the holidays, while still a primary and lower-secondary school student, I worked at a fast-food bar. I also earned my first money through sports scholarships for playing in junior football teams. Each of these jobs taught me responsibility, independence, and respect for work. ### From Student to Lecturer In my third year of studies, at the age of 22, I became one of the youngest lecturers in new technologies at the university. My academic results, publications, and participation in scientific conferences helped make that possible. Teaching allowed me to see the gap between the traditional education system and the competencies that companies and the economy increasingly needed. I decided to try to fill it. First I designed a postgraduate study program. On the basis of that experience, more than a dozen further programs eventually emerged. Then I created the concept for a field of study called E-Economy — Digital Economy. It was not a single course, but a complete study program combining academic knowledge with the experience of entrepreneurs, managers, and technology practitioners. The program attracted exceptional interest. In the following years I co-created programs in areas such as digital marketing and data science, among others. They received multi-million funding in ministerial competitions, which allowed us, together with researchers, to develop further educational initiatives. Thousands of graduates of the programs I designed work today in Poland and abroad. Many of them hold director positions, manage teams, build their own companies, and lead innovative firms. It is one of the results of my work I am most proud of. In 2012, at the age of 27, I received an offer from the PWN publishing house to write my first book on new technologies and marketing. I prepared it together with friends. The publication became a bestseller in the scientific and academic category and a textbook used in modern study programs across Poland. It also became the starting point for further books and publications. ### The Hardest Part of Growth Already as a student I took part in research and conferences, visiting universities in various parts of the world, including Turin. From the outside, it might have looked as though public speaking came naturally to me. In reality, it was for a long time one of the hardest parts of my development. The stress before stepping on stage could paralyze me. I had difficulty making contacts and finding my place in larger groups. During my studies I avoided parties, student festivals, and most social life. I was seen as a bore, or an outsider living in his own world. Every talk was therefore not only an opportunity to present knowledge, but also a struggle with my own limitations. Over time I learned that growth very often begins exactly where the sense of comfort ends. ### From Software House to Synerise After my studies, together with friends, I founded a software house. For the first year we worked on it mainly after hours, delivering commissioned projects and offering clients the skills of our team. I quickly realized that I did not want to build a company that sold only programmers' time. I wanted to create my own product and technology that could compete at a global level. It was a moment when projects like Hadoop and Spark were beginning to change the way people thought about processing large data sets. We decided to democratize access to similar capabilities. We wanted to build a platform that would let companies collect and organize data, use data science and artificial intelligence, and then solve concrete business problems through automation and well-designed processes. That is how the story of Synerise began. Synerise was among the pioneers of big data and artificial intelligence in Central and Eastern Europe. From the outset we bet on developing our own technology and intellectual property, on independence, scientific research, and the best talent. Over time, our teams began winning awards in international scientific competitions, competing with the world's largest technology companies and leading universities. Today we carry out commercial projects in many markets, and we also make some of the solutions we develop available to the community as open source. Technology has always been inseparable from education for me. In 2018, I launched one of the first artificial-intelligence teaching programs in Central and Eastern Europe, intended for kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools. In 2020 I also began work on the book "Algocracy: How and Why Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Everything." Written together with Krzysztof Rybiński, we completed the publication in 2023. ### A Rescue Mission for Wisła Kraków At the end of 2018, one of the greatest adventures of my life began. Wisła Kraków — the club of my childhood and one of the most decorated clubs in Poland — found itself on the brink of collapse. It was struggling with an enormous financial, organizational, and reputational crisis. Reports of serious irregularities around the club appeared in the media, and successive talks with potential investors brought no solution. At the same time, I was considering moving to the United States for further education, including at Harvard. In early January 2019, however, I made a different decision: I chose to get involved in saving Wisła. Together with fans, partners, and business representatives, within a few weeks we mobilized thousands of people across Poland. We organized a landmark equity crowdfunding campaign, which we closed within 24 hours, raising several million from the sale of shares to fans. I committed my own savings, time, and reputation to repaying the club's most urgent obligations. Wisła survived. I remained a member of the Supervisory Board and a minority shareholder. In June 2022, the club dropped to the second tier of competition. I then decided to take over a majority stake, assume responsibility for day-to-day management, and take on the role of president. Since then, we have been working to build a modern, responsibly managed, and technologically advanced sports organization. In the first full season of my presidency, Wisła — despite playing in the second tier — won the Polish Cup, beating three Ekstraklasa teams along the way. In the following season it represented Poland with distinction in European competition, reaching the play-off round of qualification. In the third, it returned to the Ekstraklasa after several earlier, unsuccessful attempts. In 2025, I was selected by the World Economic Forum for its Young Global Leaders program. ### The Starting Point Doesn't Set the Limits When I look at this path — from Hańczowa, through the football pitches of the Beskid Niski, my studies, my first lines of code, my scientific work, the building of Synerise, and my work for Wisła Kraków — I see that all these experiences share one conviction: the starting point does not have to determine where you arrive. I do not see my story as a tale of individual success. Behind each of these initiatives stand people: family, friends, colleagues, researchers, athletes, fans, partners, and those who, at various moments, placed their trust in me. I still have more questions than answers ahead of me, and more projects than closed chapters. **The work of building continues.** ## Life Mission Many years ago, I wrote down what I truly want to devote my life to. I set myself the goal of acquiring knowledge, developing agency, and building relationships that would allow me — together with the right people — to have a real influence on the direction in which the world develops. I have always wanted to be close to the places where the most important decisions are made. What matters to me is real impact, responsibility, and the ability to translate ideas into concrete action. And all of this amid the many contradictions within me. Today, after many years, I can see that a significant part of this plan is coming true. Yet I still treat it as a process. Every day I develop my competencies, expand the scale of what I do, and work to make my impact not only greater but, above all, wiser and more useful. What interests me is agency: the ability to shape reality, to take on responsibility, and to do things that could not be accomplished without the right knowledge, resources, and partnerships. I believe in a meritocracy based on competence, technology, and the ability to solve real problems. That is why I consciously choose difficult projects, demanding environments, and situations that force me to push beyond my own limits. I do not seek difficulty for its own sake. I treat it as a way of building the strength needed to take on ever greater responsibility. From my earliest years, I instinctively chose challenges harder than they needed to be. Today I do it deliberately. I know that ambition without resilience, competence, and discipline remains nothing more than a declaration. My long-term goal is to use technology, knowledge, and strong partnerships to build real agency — and then to use it to help co-create a better future. ## How to Work With Me Time is the most valuable asset we have. Once lost, it can never be recovered. A short user manual for collaborating with me: 1. I don't take or make phone calls unless absolutely necessary. I prefer written communication because I practise deep focus every day. 2. I can't stand long meetings. The best ones last 7 minutes — that's enough to resolve most matters. 3. I don't invest in startups. All my investments are concentrated in Synerise, Wisła Kraków, and social or educational initiatives. 4. I mentor and help for free. Feel free to reach out with any request — I usually reply, though it may take a while. 5. If I don't respond, it's never out of disrespect — it's simply a matter of limited time. 6. I speak at conferences, always for free or with a request that the fee be donated to a cause I designate. 7. I prefer email or messages via WhatsApp, Signal, or iMessage. I rarely check social media inboxes, though it does happen occasionally. 8. I know less than people think I know. 9. For me, the highest form of respect is always telling the honest truth, giving direct feedback, and practising radical honesty. Diplomacy is the highest form of vanity. 10. I consider emotional intelligence a manufactured construct designed to push people toward mediocrity and a self-serving desire to be universally liked. Don't apply it in your interactions with me. ## Values Values I strive to implement across my organisations. ### Meritocracy - When we communicate, discuss, and make decisions, we rely on facts and our best knowledge - We use our best knowledge, skills, and experience to develop solutions of the highest possible quality - We draw on the knowledge of our colleagues and other teams to leverage it as a team - We learn from our own mistakes and commit to never repeating any mistake twice - We continuously develop our knowledge, skills, and competencies, both in our field of specialisation and in areas where the organisation is growing ### Courage - We challenge commonly accepted assumptions, rules, and practices to propose better, more innovative solutions - When delivering innovations, we consciously take risks.
